Altar Servers have the honor and privilege of assisting the priest at Mass and other sacramental and liturgical celebrations. It is a wonderful way to assist not just the priest but the whole congregation during the Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Weddings, Baptisms, Confirmation Masses, and more!
We are always looking for new altar servers!
Training sessions for new Altar Servers are scheduled with Fr Nick as needed. Whether you are a new Altar Server, or an active Altar Server just needing a refresher on the role, our collaborative's Altar Server Guide will help you prepare.
Concord-Carlisle Catholic Collaborative Altar Server Training Guide
Those who wish to be altar servers should have already received their first Holy Communion prior to beginning to serve. They are also expected to know all of the prayers/congregation responses for the Mass. When it comes to serving Mass, it helps if the new altar servers serve a Mass with a veteran altar server and serve Mass regularly. Both of these will aid the new server in growing comfortable with altar serving. Also, all new servers will be expected to know how to serve Masses at both St Irene's and St Bernard's Churches. There are not many differences, but this will help ensure that as many servers can serve at Mass on any given weekend.
Scheduling for Christmas, the Holy Triduum, and Easter will be limited to servers who have been serving for at least six months and have served no fewer than one Mass a month leading up to one of those celebrations.
